All 9 MDS 3.0 v1.18.11 DRAFT Item Sets Released!

It, still the season for giving right? So… we thought we would provide you with some post Christmas, pre new year reading courtesy of CMS

As you may be aware, CMS promised a full set of MDS 3.0 v1.18.11 item sets before the end of the year. Well, CMS has gone and done it again. On Friday, 12/23, on the MDS 3.0 website, they released the full set of the draft MDS 3.0 v1.18.11 Draft item sets.  All nine item sets are available for review, including a change document that details which MDS items are contained within each item set.

It is interesting that the link and downloadable zip file are still labeled as a draft while the individual item sets are not labeled as drafts. These all indicate the following in the footers, “Effective 10/01/2023”. Perhaps more revisions to come through the proposed and final rule making cycle for FY 2024.

For a complete item by item rundown of the revisions to MDS 3.0 v1.18.11, checkout the special BRR Reflections we did September when the initial draft was released.  You must be a Broad River Rehab Insider to take advantage of this resource. This exclusive content is available to Broad River Rehab customers only.

Of note, there have been a few minor clerical and/or instructional revisions to  the draft version released last Friday and the first draft that was released in September. See below for a detailed rundown of these revisions.

CMS also released a change document, a cross check able showing which MDS items are contained in each item set. This is important and helpful since this is the first time we have been able to view the completed item sets.

On  a recent Open Door Forum, CMS promised a revised RAI Manual sometime early second quarter 2023 as well as training videos starting in may 2023. We are all looking forward to these. In the meantime, best advice, download and review the latest draft version. October 2023 will be here before you know it. No time like the present.
