The purpose of this program is to identify residents with difficulties resting and sleeping. This can include difficulty falling asleep, difficulty staying asleep, and difficulty resting. Sleep and rest are basic activities of daily living that residents participate in on a daily basis. Interrupted sleep and rest take both a physical and mental toll on an individual. Inadequate sleep and rest can lead to inappropriate behaviors, irritation, decreased appetite, inability to maintain attention, inability to problem solve and think clearly, decreased body awareness, risk of falls, and decreased ability to safely transfer and ambulate. Interprofessional communication is key to a successful program.
