A Communication Sustainability Program is a language-based speech therapy program designed specifically for residents residing in skilled nursing, long term care, assisted living, or independent living facilities. Each program is individualized to the resident based on their speech therapy plan of care. The purpose of a Communication Sustainability Program is to maximize and maintain language, speech, and/or voice, facilitate communication, and improve decreased mood indicators. Considering the impact of social isolation through the pandemic on resident’s speech, language, and communication functions, the goal of a Communication Sustainability Program is to improve the quality of life of a resident through their participation and successful completion of a daily communicative task.
